Open source
Miru’s code is public on GitHub under the GNU AGPL v3.0. So is the code for this website.

License
Section titled “License”
In plain words: you can use, modify and run your own copy of Miru. If you run a modified version that other people use, including as a public Discord bot, you must give those users your modified source code under the same license.
Paid features planned for the hosted bot won’t be part of the open-source code.
Name and branding
Section titled “Name and branding”The license covers the code, not the name. Public forks must use a different name and avatar.
Contributing
Section titled “Contributing”Issues and pull requests are welcome on GitHub.
Self-hosting
Section titled “Self-hosting”Setup steps live in the README so there’s one source of truth. In short, you’ll need:
- Node.js 18 or later
- A Discord application and bot token from the Developer Portal
- MongoDB (a free Atlas cluster works)
- An AniList API client from anilist.co/settings/developer, with the Redirect URL set to exactly
https://anilist.co/api/v2/oauth/pin - Optionally, a trace.moe API key. Without one you get 100 searches a month per server IP, one at a time.
Curious how it fits together? See Architecture.
